FAMILY MEMORIES
Family portraits are so important. Maybe it's because I'm an "older" photographer, father and grandfather, but if there's anything I'd love to do over it's have more photos of my wife and children over the years. Those moments, those memories, are so important to the legacy of a family. If you're thinking about family photos and put off by the cost, just remember, when you spend money on good photography of your people it's an investment that will be cherished for decades and generations to come.
- TIME OF DAY. For location sessions we only photograph from sunrise until 9 in the morning and for 2 hours before sunset unless there are special circumstances. This is because the light at that time of day is better for photography.
- LOCATION. Shade!!! Many people assume we need bright sunshine for a family session. Actually it's just the opposite. For best results we need shade, trees, buildings, light cloud cover (getting that is luck) anything that puts the group into shade FACING AWAY FROM THE SUN will work and actually extend our shooting time somewhat.
- GROUP SIZE. We love intimate family groups of 3-6, the larger the group the more involved the session, the more time needed and of course there is an additional investment. We like to limit our groups to about 6-8 individuals. However, we will do larger groups, just contact us for the details.
- CLOTHING CHOICES. You don't need to all match but it helps if the colors complement each other. Long pants always look better than shorts. White and red in a photograph will draw the viewers eye immediately, avoid having one or two people in those colors unless you want them in the center of your group.
- BREAKDOWNS. Group breakdowns are great but please take the time to create a list of your ideas prior to the session, this helps things run smoothly.
If you have questions about our photography we'd be happy to visit with you about your needs and plan out a session that works for you and yours.
